In a Nutshell – My Design Style

My design style has really mimicked my personal life in so many ways – it’s been everywhere. But this past year has really pushed me to define my style and aesthetic. I’ve learned so much about myself and that has helped me narrow down what I find visually appealing. I took a hiatus and stuck to brand conceptualizing for many years. Part of this was due to lack of confidence, trying out different career paths, etc. But since I started designing again I found that trying to do anything and everything was doing nothing but holding me down. I knew I needed to sit down and do some thinking. What is my design style? Ask me yesterday, and I wouldn’t even begin to tell you. This needed to be fixed PRONTO!

So, I sat and looked at all my old work. Work that I was proud of, and work that I didn’t want to look at ever again. And I realized that my design style is a representation of me and my personality.

  • Bold colors
  • Strong typography
  • Simple and clean
  • Less is more
  • Textures
  • Personalized
This is the kind of design I love! Every piece is a direct reflection of my client’s personality. It’s something that may not be “in style” but is something that my clients love because it screams character.

Page Turners

I’ve had writer’s block for over a week, and it’s been driving me nuts! I was trying to find a relevant topic, hoping that what I would write would be interesting for people to read. But something in me said that even if I couldn’t find a good topic, just write anyway. Write to my heart’s content. And today, that’s what I’m going to do.

There has been a lot going on at once the past few weeks. With my dad in the Philippines until the 5th of March, I had to take over some of his responsibilities at the bakery. Charlie and I are about to embark on a new business venture with some great friends and awesome people – but more on that later! I got sick this past week and didn’t feel like doing a darned thing while I was out of it. Between all of this and trying to stick to my regular work schedule it’s been chaos to say the least. But this all reminded me why I chose this path in my professional life. It may have been chaos, there may have been some down times and frustrating moments, but it’s exciting. It reignited my passion for entrepreneurship and business. It reminded me of all the potential and possibilities that would have never come my way, and I’m so grateful to be able to do what I do.

I know that things won’t be easy, they never are. Whenever another page turns in our lives there is a brand new list of events that will happen with a bunch of challenges that come with it. But those challenges are what’s going to make it worth it. And a lot of times I need to be reminded of that. Today, I’m reminded of one of my favorite bible verses: Jerimiah 29:11, and it gives me the most strength to keep pushing and believe.
