Road to NSS 2017

It’s been a career long dream of mine to go to the National Stationery Show in New York. For the past 6 years it was never in the cards for me, until this year! The stars aligned and I am going as an attendee to walk the show. Flight and stay is officially booked so there’s no turning back! I’m determined to be an exhibitor in 2017. Determined!

I’ve decided to start planning and budgeting now since I am on a strict/low budget. Thanks to the tons of information I got and learned at Papercamp I’m equipped with as much as I can to have a successful first show. I’m so excited!

I started with the fun stuff, researching cute and functional booth designs. I’ve done different kinds of trade shows and craft shows during my time in business and NSS booths are just the prettiest hands down. Maybe I’m biased because of all the awesome paper eye candy. Then, I created my planning spreadsheet that has my budget, to do list, and expenses all in one place. Not so fun, but spreadsheets are still mah jam. 🙂

So here we go guys! Let’s see where this road takes us!

Work Life Lately

Working on my stationery business has been tough lately. I’ve been struggling to find a normal routine. I guess that’s the drawback or running a home based business. Last week was probably my first victory in setting time aside to get things done and I felt so accomplished!

  • Mother’s Day 2016 release – check!
  • Send out wholesale newsletter – check!
  • Plan out this week’s marketing plan – check!
  • Reach out to my Mastermind – check!
  • Craft show planning – check!
  • Plan out release calendar – check!
  • New product work – check!

We have so many exciting things coming up! *insert scheming slightly evil laugh here* I’ve been working on a new product that will hopefully be released at the beginning of May. Also, our #COfitnessjournals are getting some TLC. Using it for almost a year now has really given me a chance to look at it and see what more I can add to it as well as work on its format and packaging. That’s all I’ll say! 😉

I’m determined to keep this momentum going and create a concrete workflow. This week I’m focusing on getting my office cleaned up and organized. I’m too ashamed to even show you a picture! Yes, it’s that bad. I know that once I get my surroundings organized and more workable I’ll be more productive! Cheers to the week!

Owning a Business is Hard Part 2

owning-a-business

Do you ever think to yourself, “It would be so much easier if I just worked for someone else.” I do. I contemplate that thought almost every day, especially the not-so-good days. If I just gave up and was employed by someone else then I would have less to stress about, I would have a consistent income, I would have set work hours, I don’t need to work AFTER work hours, I can just clock in, and clock out..

But I can’t, I’m just not that type of person. I’ve tried to give up and quit. I’ve tried over and over again but the result ends up the same. I’m unhappy.

I’m unhappy working for someone else.
I’m unhappy because I’m not being challenged to work at my full potential.
I’m unhappy because of office politics.
I’m unhappy because I still have to work hard, but now it’s not for myself.
I’m unhappy because I start dreaming of the entrepreneur’s life again.
I’m unhappy because I don’t have a passion for what I’m doing.

I’m here to tell you friends. The stress may feel too difficult to overcome. Like you want to just throw in the towel and give up. It’ll happen a lot. But don’t let it, fight for what you have been working so hard for. Have faith! All the struggle will show you what you’re made of. Some days you’ll feel defeated and other days you’ll feel victorious, that’s ok. We can’t win them all, but in the end you should be happy.

Your business should make you happy.
Your business should give you purpose.
Your business should be rewarding.
Your business should challenge you.
Your business should be your passion.

So live on fellow entrepreneurs! Be happy.

Kissa
