Target Haul – Spring 2018

I love going to Target. I just love going. I think I’ve met a bunch of people with the same sentiment. But I’m almost obsessed. I get it from my mom for sure. She’s the type that would walk down every single aisle for no reason. It was almost therapeutic for her. And thanks to her, it’s therapeutic for me too.

You can do a lot of “fun stuff” at Target nowadays compared to when I was younger. I put “fun stuff” in quotes because I imagine that I’m lame and that other people wouldn’t find this fun lol! Your shopping experience is more…let’s say…interactive. I love opening the Target app and scanning items that I’m going to throw into my basket in case there’s a coupon. I. love. doing. that! When it makes that sound – the one where there is a coupon available – my eyes just light up! Lol! I know, I’m lame. But hey! It’s me.

So I haven’t been to Target in a while because I work so much and after a long day I just want to go home, rest as much as I can, and sleep until I have to do it all over again the next day. But on Monday, since things have been starting to normalize (whatever that means in entrepreneur world) Charlie and I had some energy and time so I asked him if we could go to Target and “pashall” (means to go on an outing in Filipino). So I got ready and got all dolled up for Target. Yes I did! No shame in my game lol! I came away with some pretty good finds.

I’ve been craving ice cream so Charlie and I got the Market Pantry Brand Cookies and Cream. I have to say it was legit! It’s about $1 less than the name brand stuff and it was really good! I also got a couple bags of Doritos since it was 2 for $6. I can’t believe how expensive chips are now!

We wanted a coffee grinder for home so we picked up a new coffee grinder so we can have fresh ground coffee beans when we’re at home. We got one very similar to this one.

Lately, I’ve been trying to make small adjustments to my daily routine to help me feel more confident. I’ve been trying to put on some BB cream in the morning, shape my eyebrows, and put on some mascara. Target is having a great deal right now – buy $20 worth of cosmetics and get a $5 Target gift card. I got myself more of Maybelline’s BB Fresh Cream (I’m the medium shade), their Mega Plush Volum’Express Mascara (cuz I have virtually no lashes), and Physicians Formula’s Brow Last Brow Gel. I also got some dry shampoo from Not Your Mother’s brand which I’ve heard great things about, can’t wait to try it. It quickly added up to $20 so I basically got it for $15. Sweet deal!

Last but not least I went and shopped for pens! I’m in the market for a black felt tip pen that doesn’t bleed. I originally went looking for the Paper Mate Marker pens – these are my go to! My ride or die pens. But since they didn’t have any all black markers in stock I decided to go with Sharpie’s new pen. Trying it out, let’s see if I like it. I usually like a thicker tip (this looks like it might be a 0.3) but we’ll give it a whirl!

All in all I think it was a good Target trip for sure. 🙂

March Favorites

Yesterday was the first day of spring! Where did the first 3 months of the year go?! It feels like such a whirlwind. My goal for March was to “Restart” and with 10 days left in the month I’m at a steady pace toward the month end finish line. When I know I have less than 2 weeks left in the month something comes over me. This innate urge to make things happen. It must be the procrastinator in me lol!

March has definitely been a restart, though. I’m starting to find a routine in the madness of owning a restaurant among other businesses, I’m starting to blog consistently again, I’m about to start my podcast up again. Personally, I dove back into my skincare routine, I try to look somewhat presentable at work and not like I just rolled out of bed (haha!), I’m on a food diet (I don’t really like to call it a diet) that fits with my work/life. I’m able to do the things I was able to do before all this crazy started to make its way into my life and I’m starting to find some peace in it.

Every week or so I bought myself a little something just to give myself a little boost in morale – whether it be a treat, a cocktail, a new face wash, just a  small gesture to myself that I’m working hard and to keep pushing forward. Today I’m going to share my March favorites that got me through the last month.

Speaking of skincare I decided to try an new product for my face cleanser and I went with Pacifica’s Coconut Milk Cleanser. I love the way it makes my skin feel soft and clean.

I’ve been using my planner to keep me sane lately. Not only is it a place to jot down notes or input pending meetings and events, it’s a place where I can be a little creative. Every Sunday I look forward to planning out the following week – how I’m going to design my weekly layout and what colors am I going to use. I love using Crayola’s Supertips for hand lettering and coloring. The markers are really inexpensive, they don’t run out of ink quickly, and they come in a ton of different colors!

The weather in LA has been so.freaking.dry. My skin has been dying of thirst! Especially working in the food industry, you have to wash your hands a lot and it’s made my hands extremely dry. I’ve been using the St. Ives Coconut and Orchid Lotion to keep my skin moisturized. This lotion is great, it absorbs into my skin quickly. I hate those lotions that feel like they’re just sitting on top of your skin. Plus, I love the scent! For those of you that need to keep your hands constantly moisturized like I do, I bought a little travel lotion bottle and keep that in my pocket or purse at all times.

Last but not least, my air fryer! If you didn’t notice from my last post  I love my air fryer! It has changed. my. food. game. If you don’t have one yet I highly recommend the one we have – the Philips HD9641Airfryer Digital Turbostar.

Foodie Friday – Air Fryer Recipes

An appliance that I thought would be more of a novelty item in my kitchen is our air fryer. I thought it would be good to have as a healthy alternative when I was in the mood for some fries or fried chicken. 2 items that are a staple in everyone’s diet right?!

I was so wrong.

Charlie and I use our air fryer almost every day. So much so that when we go grocery shopping we look for things we can try to throw in there. We’re obsessed!

The way air fryers work is almost like a commercial convection oven. It uses forced air to cook and crisp the item you’re cooking. This means you use virtually no oil when cooking, but are still able to get a crisp! I’m going to be real though, not all products come on the same compared to deep frying. But everything I’ve tried so far I’ve enjoyed!

I did a lot of research on air fryers – the pros and cons of each, factored in the cost, and evaluated which would be best for our home. We decided to go with the Phillips Air Fryer for a couple of reasons. First, the reviews. It got good reviews on Amazon as well as other store sites like Sur la Table and William Sonoma. Second, is the ability to buy parts for it. The biggest flaw that most consumers mention about air fryers is the basket. Some say that the non-stick chips, rusts, etc. But if your basket gets its wear and tear over time, Phillips sells the basket so you can easily replace it!

That was it, I was sold!

Today, I’m going to be sharing our favorite thing to make in our air fryer. French fries and chicken wings!

Garlic French Fries – Makes 2 servings
Note: Charlie and I like shoestring fries, but you can put any fry in there and it will crisp up nicely! Only thing to remember is the bigger the fry, the longer the time.

  1. Fill your air fryer basket with 10-12 oz of fries (this is about 1/2 of a small bag)
  2. Set your temperature to 350 and cook for 7 mins. Open up and shake fries around to prevent sticking.
  3. Set your temperature to 400 and cook for 4 mins. or until golden brown/desired color.
  4. While your fries are frying, melt a pat of butter and lightly brown 1-2 tablespoons of minced garlic. Set aside.
  5. Remove fries from basket and transfer into butter and garlic mixture. Add salt and pepper if desired.
  6. Enjoy!

Lemon Pepper Chicken Wings  – Makes 2 servings
Note: My suggestion would be to purchase cooked wings. If you want to go with uncooked wings then I highly suggest to boil them the night before or right before you put them into the fryer. Season your water with your favorite spices to give the chicken more flavor!

  1. Place 10-12 wings in your fryer (start with cooked wings for a shorter cook time) and set your temperature to 400. Cook wings for 17 mins or until golden brown.
  2. Remove wings immediately from fry basket and transfer into a bowl.
  3. Toss in lemon pepper or your favorite seasoning.
  4. Enjoy!
