February Goal Setting

Hello February! The last week and few days of January was full of jet lag and playing catch up so I’m really excited to start the new month of right. Still working through the jet lag but hey, at least I’m trying right?! 😛 I have 3 main goals this month.

First, to get back on my normal routine. Like I said, our trip completely messed up our sleeping schedule which got our productivity way down to just the bare minimum to get us by. I want to get back to waking up no later than 8 am, having breakfast, getting ready, working, exercising, having dinner, and repeat. Be in bed by 11 pm, sleep by midnight. Boom.

Secondly, I need to get on that diet life. We ate so much in the Philippines. Like anything and everything lol! So I did a smoothie diet for 3 days when we got back and now am on my low carb/keto diet. To be completely transparent here, though, I haven’t even stuck to it for the last week and a half I’ve been home. That’s why this month’s main focus is to buckle down and get serious about it.

Last but not least, my third goal for February is to update my household and spending budget. Ever since Charlie and I went full time ownership (meaning neither of us are employed by someone else) we’ve had to make some major adjustments to our lifestyle. One of those things is our spending habits. I created a list of everything we spend on – groceries, mortgage payments, utilities, cell phone, credit card payments, etc. so I can make rough estimate of how much we need every month. That way I can set our pay coming from the businesses at that amount. What I really want to do for this month is to start my long term goal of having a larger savings. I decided to give myself and Charlie an allowance of $40 each a week for spending money (clothes, shoes, eating out, etc.). Once that $40 is spent, it’s spent until next week’s $40. If we want to purchase something more than $40 we can save until we have the extra money to do so. 🙂

When I did an analysis of our spending last year most of it was from eating at restaurants. I really want to make this a habit so that we don’t over spend. Wish us luck lol!

Hello From Los Angeles!

Home sweet home

I’m home! We got home last night and went straight to our favorite Vietnamese restaurant (Song Phat in Winnetka). We’ve only been here 1 day but jet lag had us up at 4 am this morning and knocked out at 11 am. I’m doing everything in my power to keep me from sleeping too early so I can try to get on a regular sleep schedule.

As much as I miss my family I’m really excited to be back home and get back to work. I’m ready to hit the ground running and there’s lots of exciting work to do. I’ve been thinking about my professional calling  a lot lately and I’m excited to share with you soon. But in the mean time, I’d love to share with you the minor changes I’m excited about on this blog.

I’ve been evaluating this blog’s purpose also. All this time, the purpose of all my blogging was promotion. Promote services, product, etc. Over time I started blogging about parts of my personal life and noticed that most of the traffic was on the posts that were more personal.

One of my goals this year was to get an accountability partner. Someone that I can talk to that gets me and my passion for business. One of my best friends from elementary school, Heather, is now a fellow entrepreneur and talking to her has been invaluable. She helped me brainstorm and I decided that I wanted to make my blog (among other things) more personal, more documentary style, and more about my journey.

I’m also going to be using different forms of media here on the blog. I’m going to start using YouTube and recording some video as well as image galleries to share more visual content.

I’m excited for this new journey and new goals for the blog! Stay tuned 😀

What are my Goals for this Blog?

I’ve been reading a lot of articles lately regarding business and online presence. Writers always ask what the purpose of your blog is and I always thought I knew my answer. To write about stuff I like, stuff I eat, and stuff I make.

But one article I read made me think deeper than that. What is my real reason for this blog? Why do I write about those things? So I thought about it for a while.

“Can’t I just write about what I want? What’s wrong with that? Do I really need to have a purpose to write?”

The answers are yes and no, nothing, and YES. ABSOLUTELY YES.

So I thought about it more, and what is my purpose in writing this blog? What the heck are my goals?!

  1. To share. I’m a firm believer of sharing information that can help others. In personal or professional life I’m an open book and are usually willing to share.
  2. To vent. Writing is a way for me to express myself. It’s one of my favorite ways to express myself, actually. I’ve written about happy moments, sad moments, more happy moments, and more sad moments. It’s an online journal for me. A place where I can chronicle a part of my life. There are days where I just go to the website and read all the things that have happened and changed since I started blogging in 2007. Wow, almost 10 years! Didn’t realize that til now 😛
  3. To promote my business. I like to mix a little personal and professional on here. My businesses are my life. I live and breathe it! I dunno, it’s fun lol! As weird as it is for me to say that, that is the purpose of this blog. It shares the name to my online store for a reason and I can’t forget that is the main purpose.

I think all in all I just want people to see the personal connection I have to all the things I design as well as the person behind the product. As I’ve grown as an business woman I’ve seen that the connection between me and my products becomes closer and closer. I used to believe that I could keep them separate. But as time passed I realized that that isn’t what I wanted to do. I wanted to create things that I would use. If I didn’t see function or beauty in it then who would?
